In this new millennium, science and technology bridge the communication of people globally with the purposes of adventuring into the unknowns and improving the quality of human life. This Postgraduate Colloquium 2021 is set to be a multidisciplinary research colloquium that draws quality research primarily from UTAR postgraduates on a wide variety of important scientific areas. Based on the theme “Towards Innovative Research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)”, this colloquium takes into awareness the vital knowledge provided by science, engineering and technology in the advancement of our race. Hence, this colloquium aims to serve as an academic platform for researchers to present their research findings in all aspects of STEM to encourage substantive knowledge transfer. Furthermore, UTAR undergraduate students are given an opportunity to have a better overview and understanding of the UTAR postgraduate programme, thus developing and strengthening a community of future scientists that will help to drive the advancement of science.

Keynote Speakers

Invited Industry Speaker:

ViTrox Corporation Berhad

Prof. Dr Leung Kar Hang

Faculty of Information and Communication Technology

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

Maylor K.H. Leung received his B.Sc. degree in physics from the National Taiwan University in 1979, and the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1983, 1985 and 1992 respectively. Currently, Dr. Leung is a Professor at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. His research interest is in the area of Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and Image Processing. Currently, his particular interest is  on video surveillance for human behavior analysis with respect to robbery and theft detection. His work has been cited 3600 times according to Google Scholar.

Dr. Humaira Nisar

Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

Humaira Nisar has a B.S in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan, M.S in Nuclear Engineering from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, another M.S in Mechatronics and Ph.D in Information and Mechatronics from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Gwangju, South Korea.

She has more than twenty years of research experience. Currently she is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. She worked as the Head of Programme for the Master of Engineering Science Programme for five years. Currently she is the Head of Programme of Master of Engineering (Electronic Systems) Programme. She is a senior member of IEEE. Her research interests include signal and image processing (bio-medical imaging, brain signal and image analysis, image analysis for wastewater treatment). She has published a number of international journal and conference papers. She has also served on technical committees of various conferences and journals.

Dr. Ng Keat Chuan

Centre for Biodiversity Research

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

Casey Ng is a multi-disciplinarian who he holds a B.Sc in Engineering, a M.Sc in Architecture majoring in advanced environmental and energy studies and a Ph.D in Biological Science majoring in fluvial ecosystem analytics. He is a member of the Centre of Biodiversity Research of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, a certified IUCN Red List species assessor and an advisor for Darwin Initiative's Traditional Knowledge Practice and Policy project in United Kingdom.

Realizing that negative impacts from anthropogenic development is prevalent nowadays, Casey doesn't see himself entirely as a scholar, but rather a field worker who constantly searches for practical ideas and localized solutions that are sustainable. He believes that science is only useful when the data and conclusions are openly published and easily understood by the public.
